Die Cut Appliqué – The Bees Knees

26 Jul

Do you appliqué or is it the “A” word as I have heard some quilters call it?  Well, for me appliqué is the Bees knees! Specifically I love die cut appliqué using primarily the Sizzix steel rule dies and felted wool. Never a scrapbooker, I have always used the Sizzix dies in my quilting and fabric crafts. I encourage you to cut something out and create!

Beach Memories

31 May

imagePlaying in my wooly sandbox to kit up this felted wool appliqué candle mat in preparation for a workshop.  Aren’t the colors awesome?  This project is a great showcase for my hand dyed wools.  I am sure we all have memories of a wonderful beach trip!  Why not stitch those memories into a fun project?  I used my favorite Sizzix.com machines and steel rule Dies to cutout these motifs.   Cut something out and create!

Upcycled Stitching Notion – Petifore Emory Pincushions

10 Feb

Love a useful stitching notion. These Petifore Emory Pincushions fall into that category. The base/lid is from a Slimfast drink bottle. The wools are from recycled 100% wool garments some hand dyed. Even the Perle Cotton threads used to stitch mine were acquired at a local thrift shop. Of course I used my most favorite tools the sizzix.com Sizzix Bigshot Die Cutting Machine and Originals and Bigz Circle dies. The photos are the results of a Make n Take stitching session in my studio. Don’t they look good enough to eat? May your needle always be sharp and threaded!

Sweet Talk

31 Jan

Sizzix has several Heart dies in their lineup. What could be better than designing around the iconic Conversation Hearts? Here are my projects related to this theme. I created a large table mat for my antique tea table, a smaller candle mat version, a tiny tall table banner, and Conversation Heart topiaries. I hope you are planning some Sweet Talk for your favorite Valentine!

Leftovers – Do you have crafting leftovers to good to toss?

28 Jan

I designed this Shot by Cupid’s Arrow candle mat using two Sizzix steel rule dies – Originals Flourish and retired Cupid. The leftovers from die cutting the Flourish the “negative of the image” were just too good to toss. I designed this adorable cushion From My Heart in order to use up the Flourish leftovers. I hope you too can do something creative with your useable leftovers! Happy Crafting!!!

Do you recycle? Here is a project for you!

29 Oct

So, do you recycle?  For several years now I have been addicted to working with felted wool in my quilting projects.  Without a Local Quilt Shop close enough to provide the wool I want and need for my projects I have a considerable stash of recycled wool and the occasional other fabric when it is too awesome to pass up.  That’s where this Pumpkin Cushion got its start.  I couldn’t resist a skirt made of a beautiful irridescent green taffeta with a black velvet jacquard print.  Unfortunately the photo doesn’t do this beautiful fabric justice.  Die cut with my favorite Sizzix dies.  I used the Big Shot Pro Die Cutting Machine, 6″ Circle Die, Tim Holtz Movers and Shapers Die Tattered Leaves, Medium Die Flower Layers w/ Leaf #2 and a 1″ x 3″ rectangle.
