Make it Work!  Die Cut Appliqué with altered tool

20 Jan

I am so thrilled with myself…I love the size (smaller) I can get with these old school Paddle Punch steel rule dies
,

but hate hammering them out. It just occurred to me to compare their height with mySizzix

Movers and Shapers dies. Turns out they are the same height. I used my Dremel Tool to cut the die end from its handle and they are perfect. FYI the height of the handle is too high to operate as is in the Movers and Shapers Tray thus the need to cut the die away from the handle. They are not magnetic but that doesn’t bother me as I usually just snug what I am cutting into the tray corner anyway. I’ll get hubby to cut the rest as I am sure he will be neater. The Paddle Punch steel rule dies by Sizzix are retired but readily available on line at various resale venues.

If you have followed me you know I love all things Sizzix (no affiliation though I would like to) and I encourage you to cut something out and create.

*Please use altered dies at your own risk and understand their use voids any existing warranties.

Die Cut Appliqué Snowflake Continued

3 Jan

I finished the die cut appliqué snowflake, but instead of making it into a pillow it is a quilted and bound table mat. It’s a beauty!

Diecut Appliqué Snowflake Pillow

24 Dec

Merry Christmas!  It’s warm and pouring rain here in Georgia on Christmas Eve. Unusual weather for this time of year. I am still in the Christmas Spirt as I finish up projects, start new ones and dream up even more ideas!

I just cut and fused this beauty this morning on one of my handled blue wools. If I can’t get out in this weather I might as well stitch. This will be a pillow for January’s Monthly Mini (door prize/fundraiser ) at my quilt guild.

The Snowflake die is the widest in the Sizzix lineup and requires the Sizzix Pro, or Accuquilt/Accucut*, or Fiskars Fuse* die cutting machine. *Adapters or shims are necessary.

Please follow my on social media at Pretty Penny Precuts.

I encourage you to cut something out and create!

SEW Blessed

4 Dec

My quilting and sewing has never ceased to bless me in so many ways. I thrive on the fellowship quilting in my charity group Comfort Quilters, my guild Quilters Guild of the Southern Crescent, my small group SEW Primitive, SEW Social, and finally Pretty Penny Precuts Open House provides me. These quilters of my heart encourage, poke, prod and inspire ceaselessly. If you are not a member of some kind of creative fellowship I encourage you to find one or better yet start a new one!

Here are the two FREE Make n Take options for December’s Open House in the Pretty Penny Precuts Studio. Look what you can do with Marcus Fabrics wool and Sizzix die cuts!  Nativity Silhouette and Christmas Truck. I will return with updates soon to share some finishing ideas for these stitcheries.

Die Cut Appliqué- Woven Baskets

10 Sep

#sizzix_quilting (no affiliation but I’d like to!) Sizzix has a number of dies for strip cutting. We used the the 1/2″ strip cutter to cut pre fused felted wool for weaving. The results are adorable.  Add some buttons for the handle and a few little leaves to embellish. Cut something out and create!

Beach Memories

31 May

imagePlaying in my wooly sandbox to kit up this felted wool appliqué candle mat in preparation for a workshop.  Aren’t the colors awesome?  This project is a great showcase for my hand dyed wools.  I am sure we all have memories of a wonderful beach trip!  Why not stitch those memories into a fun project?  I used my favorite Sizzix.com machines and steel rule Dies to cutout these motifs.   Cut something out and create!

Sew Free Retreat

7 May

I attended my first Quilting Retreat ever this week!  What a wonderful time we had!!!  My goal was to a.  Bond with my

sewing machine, b. Finish projects, and c.  Enjoy everyone and everything. It was a huge success and I highly recommend “retreating” to you. My finishes included binding one full sized quilt

one charity quilt, a Cindy Needham thread play practice piece, and my Bluebird Tea Party wool on cotton appliqué (look at that awesome Bluebird wool I dyed).

Stitching out several labels and using embroidery software to quilt quilting motifs (See the one block sample of Primitive Pieces by Lynda Hall – Wedding Day Quilt). It’s so wonderful to accomplish things!  This retreat was held at the Charlie Elliot Nature Center in Mansfield, GA. The facility and staff was top notch. The beds are rock hard so plan ahead and take a mattress pad. And no, it wasn’t free, but we were free to sew to our heart’s content and the only schedule to follow was for meals.  Should you ever go to a retreat at the Charlie Elliot Nature Center be sure to request the Scones with each breakfast served. Yum!
